Taking Care of Scratches on Your Furniture

When that heartbreaking first ding or scratch appears on your new furniture, the marks left behind are especially obvious if the stain is scraped off and the lighter wood beneath it is revealed.  Let’s face it – furniture is meant to be used, not just sit there collecting dust.  But the downside if you are extremely careful life does happen and you are bound to have a scratch, nick or ding on the wood furniture that you use day in and day out.  If that does happen – do you let it slide, try to ignore it or put something over it?

Depending on how bad the damage is, there can be a quick and easy solution to the damage.  One of the home remedies that can work to conceal those scratches is nuts. No, really: Fresh walnuts or Brazil nuts have natural oils that help darken the wood to hide scratches. Crack the nut open, then rub the meat over the scratch in the direction of the grain of the wood. Buff with a clean, soft cloth. Repeat until the area blends in with the rest of the finish as much as possible.

Now this does not work 100% of the time.  Another solution is a touch-up pen that matches the color of your furniture.

Wood Menders can provide a custom color matched touch-up pen that will work on your furniture.  Contact us to get more information – 616.805.9663 or info@woodmenders.com
