We always get asked on what to look for when buying furniture both old and new to ensure that it is good quality and that it will last for many years to come. Here are a few things to look for when shopping for that new piece of furniture:
Dovetail Joints
Solid Wood or Plywood Backing
– if you see particle board backing this typically means that the manufacturer was cutting costs (and possibly cutting corners) with quality.
Look on the inside
– is it finished inside (even in areas that you would typically not see)?
– can you see glue and staples (typically a sign that it is not a high-quality piece of furniture)
These are just a few things to look for when buying both used and new furniture.
